Jaguar Land Rover and Nvidia have entered into a multi-year partnership to co-develop and offer next-generation automated driving systems along with artificial intelligence (AI) enabled services and experiences for the former’s customers.

All the new Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles from 2025 onwards will be built on the Nvidia Drive software-defined platform. This will help deliver a range of automated driving, active safety, and parking systems apart from driver assistance systems, said the parties.

The parties plan to provide AI features inside the vehicle. These include driver and occupant monitoring and advanced visualisation of the environment of the vehicle.

According to Nvidia, the full-stack solution is based on the Nvidia Drive Hyperion autonomous vehicle (AV) development platform.

The features of Nvidia Drive Hyperion include Drive Orin centralised AV computers, Drive IX and Drive AV software, safety, security and networking systems, and surround sensors.

Nvidia founder and CEO Jensen Huang said: “Next-generation cars will transform automotive into one of the largest and most advanced technology industries. Fleets of software-defined, programmable cars will offer new functionalities and services for the life of the vehicles.

“We are thrilled to partner with Jaguar Land Rover to reimagine the future of transportation and create the most advanced cars.”

Drive Orin, which is the car’s AI brain, runs the Jaguar Land Rover Operating System, while Drive Hyperion will function as the central nervous system.

Additionally, Jaguar Land Rover will utilize in-house developed data centre solutions with Nvidia DGX for giving training to AI models. The British automotive company will also leverage Drive Sim software built on Nvidia Omniverse to enable physically accurate simulation in real-time.

The software-defined features and end-to-end verification and validation architecture of Jaguar Land Rover is expected to facilitate the delivery of assisted and automated driving services for the vehicle’s life through over-the-air software updates.

Jaguar Land Rover CEO Thierry Bolloré said: “Collaboration and knowledge-sharing with industry leader Nvidia is essential to realising our Reimagine strategy, setting new benchmarks in quality, technology and sustainability.

“Jaguar Land Rover will become the creator of the world’s most desirable luxury vehicles and services for the most discerning customers. Our long-term strategic partnership with Nvidia will unlock a world of potential for our future vehicles as the business continues its transformation into a truly global, digital powerhouse.”

In February last year, Jaguar Land Rover pledged that it will sell only electric cars by the end of 2030 as part of its Reimagine strategy. The British automotive company, which is owned by Tata Motors, is aiming to be carbon neutral by 2039.
