SAP has unveiled advancements powered by artificial intelligence (AI) in its supply chain solutions with an aim to enhance productivity, efficiency, and precision in manufacturing.

According to the German company, the AI-driven insights from real-time data will enable businesses to make better decisions across supply chains and optimise product development. Additionally, the insights will improve efficiency in manufacturing processes.

Through the new innovations, firms will be able to utilise higher volumes of machine data and integrate AI-driven visual inspection by computer into their production processes. This will enhance quality through automation.

Besides, product developers will be able to use SAP’s AI copilot Joule to collect and bolster new product ideas quickly and effectively with natural language queries.

SAP said that asset operators will be able to proactively meet potential breakdowns based on sensor data gathered from smart devices and edge gateways by tapping AI.

This new capability uses the Cumulocity Internet of Things (IoT) platform from Software AG, which is expected to be embedded in the SAP Asset Performance Management application in Q3 2024.

Furthermore, clients will be able to streamline driving routes and effectively assign job assignments with integrated real-time traffic data and machine-learning-trained models.

SAP and SAP Product Engineering executive board member Muhammad Alam said: “SAP recognises the imperative for agility and intelligence, driving innovation with AI-powered solutions to streamline supply chain and manufacturing processes.

“Companies can enhance operational efficiency and improve supply chain resiliency while delighting customers with superior service, paving the way for sustained growth and market competitiveness.”

Earlier this year, SAP revealed its plans to implement an approximately €2bn company-wide restructuring programme, impacting nearly 8,000 positions.

The restructuring is aimed at increasing the company’s focus on key strategic growth areas including business AI.
