Oracle Corporation Japan has revealed its plans to invest over $8bn in the coming 10 years to address the rising demand for cloud computing and artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure in Japan.

According to Oracle, the new investment will expand Oracle Cloud Infrastructure’s (OCI) presence across Japan.

Oracle will also spread out its operations and support engineering teams with Japan-based personnel. This will enable the firm to assist its customers and partners in meeting the digital sovereignty needs in the country.

Besides, the technology major aims to strengthen regional customer support of its public cloud regions in Tokyo and Osaka as well as its local operations teams for Oracle Alloy and OCI Dedicated Region.

This is expected to help governments and businesses across Japan in migrating their mission-critical workloads to the Oracle Cloud and adopt sovereign AI solutions.

Oracle stated that its sovereign cloud and AI services can be delivered securely within a country’s borders or an organisation’s premises with a range of operational controls.

Oracle Corporation Japan board member, corporate executive officer and president Toshimitsu Misawa said: “We are dedicated to meeting our customers and partners where they are in their cloud journey.

“By growing our cloud footprint and providing a team to support sovereign operations in Japan, we are giving our customers and partners the opportunity to innovate with AI and other cloud services while supporting their regulatory and sovereignty requirements.”

Separately, Oracle announced a partnership with Japan’s Fujitsu to offer sovereign cloud and AI capabilities in the country.

Through the collaboration, Fujitsu will leverage Oracle Alloy to expand its hybrid IT solutions for Fujitsu Uvance.

Furthermore, the Japanese information and communications technology company will operate Oracle Alloy independently in its data centres in Japan with additional control over its operations.
