Stellantis Group has completed the previously announced acquisition of Hungary-based artificial intelligence (AI) and autonomous driving software developer aiMotive.

The financial terms of the deal remained undisclosed.

Following the closing of the deal, aiMotive will function as a subsidiary of Stellantis.

As announced earlier, the autonomous driving software developer will maintain its operational independence and continue to sell its three areas of technology products namely, aiData, aiSim, and aiWare.

Aimotive offers an integrated portfolio of software, tools and hardware products accompanied by proprietary data management tools, allowing its clients to develop and implement production automated driving features.

The company’s founder László Kishonti will remain as the CEO, said Stellantis.

Kishonti said: “In 2015, I founded a company that would develop technologies to shape the future of mobility for everyone. I’m delighted that seven years later we can contribute to Stellantis’ ambition and work together to make millions of customers’ cars better, safer and more intelligent.”

Stellantis signed the agreement to acquire aiMotive in November 2022 with an aim to expand its global talent pool and accelerate the mid-term development of its new STLA AutoDrive platform.

The acquisition of aiMotive was also said to be a part of the software strategy of the company, which aims to generate about €20bn in incremental annual revenues by 2030.

In addition, Stellantis aims to improve its AI and autonomous driving core technology through the acquisition.

Stellantis chief software officer Yves Bonnefont said: “The acquisition of aiMotive will accelerate our journey to become a sustainable mobility tech company and deliver our Dare Forward 2030 goals.

“Thanks to aiMotive’s world-class expertise, we will enhance our artificial intelligence and autonomous driving core technology, expand our global talent pool, and foster the mid-term development of our all-new STLA AutoDrive platform.”

Stellantis said that it will have a board of directors to manage aiMotive while upholding its autonomy and startup-style focus on rapid innovation.
