French luxury goods company LVMH has announced a partnership with Google Cloud to develop cloud-based artificial intelligence (AI) solutions.

The partnership is expected to integrate the companies’ creativity, assets, and technological capabilities.

Under the partnership, the two companies will work together to strengthen LVMH’s Maisons, the group’s individual luxury brands, to deliver new, personalised customer experiences that boost long-term growth.

New AI and machine learning (ML) technologies will be offered by the collaboration to support Maisons’ human talent. The technologies are expected to enhance demand forecasting and inventory optimisation to improve overall business operations.

In addition, the technologies delivered by the partnership will help in meeting LVMH’s strictest privacy and security requirements.

LVMH group managing director Toni Belloni said: “This new, unprecedented and significant partnership with Google Cloud is the reflection of our high ambitions in this area.

“By combining our best-in-class approaches in our respective industries, it will take us a step forward in the use of data and AI. For us, privacy, personalization, and luxury are synonymous, and that will always remain true.

“The new opportunities offered to our customers are exactly what our talented teams are working for at LVMH: a unique and unforgettable experience.”

By utilising Google Cloud’s cloud technology and AI/ML tools, LVMH plans to develop new business use cases at scale, in order to meet the standards of Maisons’ customers.

The partnership will also enable LVMH to gain Google Cloud’s support to improve its culture of innovation that includes the creation of dedicated, inclusive upskilling and certification programs for Maisons’ teams.

LVMH also intends to modernise its IT infrastructure using Google Cloud in order to achieve its business ambitions.

Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian said: “We are proud to be entering into such an innovative and extensive partnership with LVMH to power its innovation through cloud technology and AI capacities. Together, we can help drive the future of customer experience in the luxury industry.”

As part of the partnership, LVMH and Google Cloud will assess co-innovation opportunities to boost their expertise and innovation. The companies also plan to open a Data and AI Academy in Paris.

Last month, commerce company Shopify has expanded its partnership with Google Cloud to bring data processing and storage closer to its merchants in more regions.
