Indosat Ooredoo, an Indonesian telecommunications provider, has joined forces with Google Cloud to expedite digital transformation in the consumer and enterprise segments in Indonesia.

The multi-faceted partnership plans to cater to Indonesian small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs). It will cover several areas that are core to the capabilities of Indosat Ooredoo and Google Cloud.

Indosat Ooredoo president director and CEO Ahmad Al-Neama said: “We understand the significant impact the pandemic is having on our nation’s SMB community and this partnership will deliver new and outstanding digital products and services that these businesses need to thrive.

“Through this partnership, Indosat Ooredoo will offer SMBs new cloud-based, and 5G enabled digital solutions designed that will empower new business models and enable them to tap new markets and opportunities that would not have been possible before.”

The plans of the partners include developing a marketplace of customised software-as-a-service offerings for the full digitisation of SMBs. This could include boosting an online footprint with Google My Business, improving productivity with Google Workspace, employing artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) for expanding and automating businesses, and enhancing customer service with smart data analytics in the cloud.

Indosat Ooredoo and Google Cloud also plan to jointly develop a portfolio of 5G edge computing solutions. By bringing together the former’s network, Google Cloud’s technologies, and edge computing, the partnership aims to help organisations address real business challenges across industries.

Additionally, the Indonesian telecommunications firm and Google Cloud will be assessing the development of B2B security managed services for not only advancing their resilience but also for protecting enterprises from cybersecurity risks.

As part of the partnership, Indosat Ooredoo will modernise its infrastructure and applications on Google Cloud to build a cloud-first organisation.

The partners will particularly define a roadmap for advanced data analytics modernisation and adoption of AI/ML. This is expected to help the telecommunications firm improve its core operations, costs, and customer experiences, while helping it identify and maximise opportunities for new business models in future.

Google Cloud president Rob Enslin said: “The key to delivering next-generation applications and creating new customer experiences with Indosat Ooredoo is our shared culture of innovation. We’re excited to work with Indosat Ooredoo to help digitize businesses of all sizes in Indonesia and help the company create new engines for long-term innovation and growth.”

Last month, Google Cloud entered into a partnership with Siemens Energy to migrate the latter’s global network of data centres into the cloud.
