IBM Consulting has entered into a partnership with US-based Discover Financial Services to jointly develop technology solutions and help the latter migrate and modernise its current systems and applications to an open and flexible hybrid cloud architecture.

The professional services and consulting arm of IBM will use Red Hat OpenShift products to assist the digital bank and payments company in boosting its digital transformation.

IBM Consulting senior vice president John Granger said: “Consumers demand faster access to integrated digital banking and payments more than ever, with the assurance that their data will be protected.

“Embracing an open enterprise hybrid cloud strategy with a secure platform purpose-built for the financial services industry allows Discover to deliver differentiated new experiences.”

According to IBM, Red Hat OpenShift will enable Discover Financial Services to make use of key capabilities like automation, security, and multicloud service integration.

The capabilities are expected to help the financial services firm in cutting down costs of operations, deliver improved outcomes across business processes, make deployment of applications faster, and bring agility with improved security and resilience.

Discover Financial Services executive vice president and chief information officer Amir Arooni said: “As we accelerate our digital transition journey as a leading direct bank and payments company, it is critical that we have technology solutions in place that help us improve the customer experience.

“Working with IBM will allow us to automate, react and deliver solutions more quickly, ultimately driving down costs and helping our customers.”

Additionally, IBM Consulting will work with Discover Financial Services’ teams to leverage IBM Garage and agile techniques for modernising existing applications and co-build new solutions to help the latter gain greater business and technical benefits.

The financial services firm will utilise Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform for hybrid cloud automation. It will use Red Hat Advanced Cluster Management for Kubernetes (ACM) to get end-to-end management visibility as well as control of its cluster and application lifecycle throughout its hybrid cloud architecture.
