Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE), a provider of enterprise-level technology solutions, has disclosed its plans to start manufacturing some of the company’s high-volume servers in India.

The American company aims to manufacture about $bn worth of high-runner servers in the first five years of production from the Asian country.

In this regard, it has collaborated with India-based product engineering and manufacturing company VVDN Technologies to produce HPE’s products from the latter’s plant in Manesar in the state of Haryana.

According to HPE, the manufacturing operation will support the increasing demand from Indian customers as well as bolster and diversify the company’s global supply chain.

India Railways, Communications, Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said: “We welcome HPE’s decision to start their manufacturing line in India, as it will enhance domestic production capacities.

“The recently announced Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme 2.0 aims to make India a global hub for Electronics System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM). We believe large-scale IT hardware manufacturing will help in broadening and deepening the manufacturing ecosystem.”

In 2019, HPE announced a $500m investment in India over a period of five years to expand the company’s operations and team member base in the country.

The company also claims to have generated 2,000 net new roles in India and invested in various new campuses and offices since 2019.

HPE president and CEO Antonio Neri said: “Today’s announcement marks a significant milestone for HPE and reiterates our commitment to the Government of India’s ‘Make in India’ initiative for a self-reliant India.

“India is a strategic market for HPE’s business, talent, innovation – and now, manufacturing. Customers in India continue turn to HPE to help them digitally transform, and our 14,000 team members here play a key role in driving our edge-to-cloud strategy.”

In April 2023, HPE introduced new file, block, disaster and backup recovery data services developed to help customers in removing data silos, decreasing cost and complexity, and boosting performance.

Built on HPE Alletra Storage MP, the new data services are expected to provide scale-out, enterprise-grade performance for data-intensive workloads.
