US-based consumer electronics retailer Best Buy has selected Amazon Web Services (AWS) to power its operations with cloud technology.

Under the partnership, AWS will be Best Buy’s preferred cloud provider for cloud infrastructure services. The Amazon company will also support the retailer in developing cloud engineering talent.

The collaboration is expected to enable Best Buy to rapidly innovate customer experiences and support its teams to create enhanced digital experiences.

It is also anticipated to help the company to speed up the pace of its cloud migration and implementation of its cloud-first strategy.

Best Buy will start the migration by transferring additional retail operations workloads from on-premises data centres to AWS.

The company also intends to expand the use of AWS capabilities and AWS Marketplace to improve resilience, gain agility, and speed up innovation.

AWS Marketplace is a digital catalogue of software listings to find, test, buy, and deploy software that runs on AWS.

Best Buy chief digital and technology officer Brian Tilzer said: “Our purpose to enrich lives through technology has never been more important, and this new partnership with AWS is another step in our commitment to deliver outstanding experiences for our customers.

“Not only will AWS’s cloud technologies help us in this work, but in combination with our culture of innovation and reinvention, they will give our teams invaluable development opportunities as we continue to grow our skilled teams and remain one of the best places for amazing technology talent to thrive.”

The retailer enables its customers to interact virtually with experts to receive live demos of physical products, with AWS compute, storage, database, and security services.

According to Best Buy, integrating AWS’s advanced cloud technologies with its agile development model will boost its new offering launches.

The collaboration is also expected to help Best Buy to provide its technology teams access to AWS cloud training resources to gain skills development opportunities.

In January this year, Norway’s Telenor has extended its existing collaboration with AWS for the expansion of cloud-based core network innovation.
