Agility Robotics, an Oregon-based robotic company, has raised $150m in a Series B funding round led by venture capital firms DCVC and Playground Global.

Founded in 2015, the company is engaged in creating and manufacturing robots for logistics and warehouse environments where they can work alongside people.

According to Agility Robotics, its robots augment the productivity, efficiency, and wellness of the human workforce.

Agility Robotics’ Series B round saw the joining of Amazon Industrial Innovation Fund as a new investor with an aim to encourage innovation in the logistics industry. The company’s previous investors MFV Partners, Robotics Hub, ITIC, TDK Ventures, and Safar Partners also took part in the funding round.

Playground Global general partner Bruce Leak said: “Agility is set to make a powerful impact, developing and shipping robots that are built to co-exist seamlessly in our lives.

“Since Agility’s earliest days, we’ve believed their unique technical approach stands alone in being able to deliver on the promise of practical everyday robots.”

Agility Robotics said that the capital raise will expedite its research and development (R&D) and scale its production of robots. It will also enable it to continue growing its operations and recruitment in the US.

Besides, the company will use the new capital to speed up the delivery of the next generation of its robots.

Agility Robotics CEO Damion Shelton said: “Unprecedented consumer and corporate demand have created an extraordinary need for robots to support people in the workplace.

“With this investment, Agility can ramp up the delivery of robots to fill roles where there’s an unmet need.”

The robotics company had previously raised $20m in October 2020 from DCVC and Playground Global and others for developing and deploying humanoid robots for working in human spaces. Prior to this, Agility Robotics had raised $9m.
