Google Cloud has unveiled new generative artificial intelligence (AI) solutions that healthcare and life sciences institutions can leverage to enhance patient outcomes.

Introduced during the ongoing HIMSS Global Health Conference & Exhibition in Orlando, Florida, US (HIMSS24), the new capabilities from Google Cloud will help healthcare and life science organisations in fostering interoperability. Besides, the solutions will enable them in developing a better data foundation for their businesses and deploying generative AI tools.

As part of this, Google Cloud has launched Vertex AI Search for Healthcare to help developers build better assistive technology for clinicians and other health system workers to eliminate administrative burdens.

The Vertex AI Search for Healthcare will allow medically-tuned, gen AI search on a wide range of data, including fast healthcare interoperability resources (FHIR) data and clinical notes.

According to Google Cloud, the search and question-answering capabilities will integrate with MedLM, Healthcare Data Engine (HDE), and Cloud Healthcare FHIR application programming interfaces (APIs).

This is expected to allow healthcare and life science organisations to easily develop the data analytics and AI solutions required for next era health systems.

The HDE will offer automated tooling and components to develop a unified high quality patient data platform rapidly. Its integration with Vertex AI Search will allow search and summarisation use cases without the need for tailored integrations.

Google Cloud healthcare strategy and solutions global director Aashima Gupta said: “Not all generative AI is created equal, and in healthcare, the stakes are particularly high.

“Healthcare organisations require enterprise-grade gen AI solutions, grounded in real data. Vertex AI Search for Healthcare is already making a difference for healthcare organisations by helping ensure clinicians have the right information and insights at the right time to inform decisions and improve the overall quality of patient care.”

Last week, Google Cloud said that PUMA selected its data, analytics, and AI solutions to enhance the sports brand’s online retail operations, aiming for increased efficiency, agility, and personalised experiences for its global customer base.
