SAP and Microsoft revealed plans to integrate the latter’s business communication platform Microsoft Teams with the former’s intelligent suite of solutions.

The firms have also formally expanded their partnership to speed up the adoption of enterprise resource planning (ERP) system SAP S/4HANA on Microsoft Azure cloud computing service.

SAP CEO Christian Klein said: “By integrating Microsoft Teams across our solution portfolio, we will bring collaboration to the next level, jointly determining the future of work and enabling the frictionless enterprise.

“Our trusted partnership with Microsoft is focused on continuously advancing customer success. That’s why we are also expanding interoperability with Azure.”

According to Microsoft, a lot has changed in the past year with work becoming increasingly virtual, thereby increasing dependence on Microsoft Teams for meetings, communication, and also collaboration.

For addressing the business and societal changes, SAP and Microsoft are said to be building new integrations between Microsoft Teams and solutions like SAP S/4HANA, SAP Customer Experience, and SAP SuccessFactors.

Expected to help in innovation and in boosting employee productivity and engagement, among others, the integrations are planned to be delivered in mid-2021.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said: “The case for digital transformation has never been more urgent.

“By bringing together the power of Azure and Teams with SAP’s solutions, we will help more organisations harness the power of the cloud so they can more quickly adapt and innovate going forward.”

The firms are also expanding their cloud partnership that was launched in 2019 through new offerings related to cloud automation and integration for SAP S/4HANA on Microsoft Azure.

Under the partnership, the firms are said to be boosting the ability to run a mission-critical intelligent enterprise on Microsoft Azure while enabling customers to modernise their enterprise applications.
