Nokia has announced that it is deploying a 10G broadband network for Finnish optical fibre network operator and service provider Valoo.

Under the deal, Nokia will also provide fibre access nodes for the central office and its Altiplano broadband access controller, that includes software defined access networking (SDAN) capabilities.

According to Nokia, 200,000 houses in 30 cities and the surrounding areas would be connected through the new network by the end of 2026.

The XGS-PON deployment is said to be ready for 25G PON when Valoo requires to add more capacity as the solution’s core component is Nokia’s Quillion chipset.

The Quillion chipset also facilitates reduced emissions.

Nokia fixed networks president Sandy Motley said: “With our Altiplano controller, Valoo has laid the foundation for automation in the broadband access network, which is essential for operators looking to innovate with advanced digital broadband offerings while keeping their operational expenditure under control.”

Valoo, which is owned by infrastructure equity fund DIF Capital Partners, focuses on fibre broadband access.

The company is implementing extensive fibre developments in the Finnish market.

In February 2023, Valoo announced that it is building fibre networks to provide internet service subscriptions on its own and make its network open to third party operators.

Valoo CEO Tommi Linna said: “With Nokia’s advanced Lightspan multi-gig fibre broadband solution we can provide our customers the best possible technology there is in the fibre world.

“The solution enables us to deliver network connection to multiple customers using the same fibre and accelerate internet connections up to 20 gigabit and beyond. With Nokia’s new Altiplano controller we can bring advanced open access network solution to Finnish market.”

In February 2023, Nokia expanded its lab-as-a-service (LaaS) solution to expedite the digital transformation of companies.
