NASA said that it has awarded an indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract to Pennsylvania-based Ansys to deliver a suite of modelling and simulation tools.

The maximum potential value of the contract is $39.1m.

Under the potential five-year ordering period, NASA will procure capabilities in the engineering disciplines of structures, thermal, fluids, crash, photonics, semiconductors, materials, electromagnetics, test, mission, evaluation, and orbit determination.

According to NASA, it has a longer-term option to procure software licenses, services, maintenance, and training from Ansys and its subsidiaries.

The contract vehicle is expected to enable NASA centres across the US to conveniently and efficiently place orders.

The period of contract execution will have a potential end date of 6 April 2027, if all options are exercised.

NASA stated that the contract will be administered at the NASA Shared Services Center (NSSC) located in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi. The NSSC’s role is to carry out some business activities for all NASA centres and various other federal agencies.

In another development, four private astronauts have reached the International Space Station as part of the Axiom Mission 1 (Ax-1).

The Axiom Space astronauts were lifted off from Launch Complex 39A at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida on Friday. The Dragon Endeavour spacecraft carrying the astronauts was propelled by a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket.

The crew is scheduled to spend over a week carrying out scientific research, outreach, and commercial activities on the International Space Station.
