You can read our full coverage here. Whilst we were at Sky Studios we were lucky enough to get to speak to Home Secretary Amber Rudd.
This is what she had to say about tackling terrorism, Brexit, and what she really thinks of Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn.
Amber Rudd believes that Brexit is monumental
“We have a lot of really challenging and tough negotiations ahead of us with Brexit,” Amber Rudd told Compelo. “Theresa May is absolutely the one who will get us the best outcome for the whole of the country. You can’t argue with that. May qualified most of her answers with the fact that Brexit is the key.”
Did Prime Minister Theresa May put off answering difficult questions from the live audience and from Jeremy Paxman? “Not at all,” Amber Rudd told us. “She answered a lot of questions which weren’t directly about Brexit. You know, we have to face up to the fact that the UK leaving the European Union is a huge deal. We absolutely have to make sure that we get it right.”
In a confusing time of negotiations, what does ‘getting it right’ actually mean then? Amber Rudd explained: “We have to get it right for the economy because that is the only way we are going to be able to deliver social care and more support for the NHS and for schools. I think it is right to link up these issues. Why? Because they are linked.”
What does Amber Rudd really think of Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn?
“I think Jeremy Corbyn seemed very relaxed when he was being interviewed – actually too relaxed,” Rudd told us. “I found him really very evasive.”
Do his arguments make logical sense? “The fact is that he was being pinned down on his whole record, particularly on security and facing terrorism. He was unable to reconcile those points.”
Continuing, Amber Rudd said: “Then when Jeremy Corbyn was challenged on his former support of the IRA, he was unable to give people they certainty that they want. This is unacceptable in a time when our security feels so unstable.”
On the bombing of the Ariana Grande concert in Manchester last week, Amber Rudd told us: “The Manchester attack was absolutely horrific and people want stable support and protection moving forward. May is the far better candidate to deliver this than Corbyn.”
