Cloud-based software company Salesforce is reportedly in advanced talks to acquire US-based enterprise cloud data management firm Informatica.

An announcement regarding the deal will be announced shortly, reported Reuters, citing an undisclosed source with knowledge of the matter.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the price under discussion is lower than Informatica’s present share value of $38.48. The publication is said to be the first to report the negotiations between Salesforce and Informatica.

Established in 1993, Informatica is said to facilitate 71 trillion cloud transactions per month and offer more than 250 intelligent data services.

The company has developed a new category of software, dubbed the Informatica Intelligent Data Management Cloud (IDMC). It is an end-to-end data management platform driven by CLAIRE AI.

IDMC is designed to connect, handle, and combine data across any multi-cloud or hybrid system. The platform allows enterprises to transform and advance their business strategies along with democratising data.

In 2015, Informatica was acquired by a firm controlled by Permira funds and Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB) in a deal worth about $5.3bn. Microsoft and Salesforce Ventures also became strategic investors in the company.

Last week, the enterprise cloud data management firm extended its partnership with Google Cloud. As part of this, Informatica introduced its Master Data Management (MDM) extension for Google Cloud BigQuery.

Once the deal goes through, it would mark Salesforce’s most significant acquisition after it snapped up workplace messaging app Slack Technologies in 2020 for approximately $28bn, reported Reuters.

Last month, Salesforce introduced a generative artificial intelligence (AI) customer relationship management (CRM) technology, dubbed Einstein GPT, to offer AI-created content across all sales, marketing, commerce, service, and IT interaction at hyperscale.
