Motorola Solutions, an American telecommunications equipment company, has acquired Calipsa, a UK-based cloud-native advanced video analytics provider, for an undisclosed price.

Calipsa is said to have built a scalable platform to help businesses optimise security with artificial intelligence (AI) powered analytics. The platform enables businesses in verifying alarms, facilitating content-based searches, identify tampering, and in real-time assess the health of cameras.

The company’s video analytics solution is said to be used by enterprise and security monitoring customers globally.

Motorola Solutions chairman and CEO Greg Brown said: “We believe AI, spanning from the edge to the cloud, is driving the future of video security.

“With Calipsa, we can rapidly extend our intelligent analytics across any video security solution and support the accelerating trend of enterprises using cloud technologies to enhance safety and security.”

The cloud-based technology of Calipsa is said to enable customers to add AI to existing IP-based cameras without the need for additional hardware. This allows for new analytics capabilities on the millions of the already deployed IP-based cameras, said Motorola Solutions.

Calipsa CEO Mohammad Rashid said: “Both Calipsa and Motorola Solutions share the mission of keeping enterprises and communities safe.

“Joining the Motorola Solutions team enables us to accelerate the development and broaden the reach of our innovative technologies that transform video from a retroactive investigative tool into a proactive response tool.”

Calipsa adds to Motorola Solutions’ acquisition of Ava Security, another UK-based provider of cloud-native video security and analytics. Ava Security’s scalable cloud solution is designed to help enterprises gain real-time visibility and analytics for streamlining their operations and detecting threats and anomalies.

In a separate development, Motorola Solutions has established a cyber threat information sharing and analysis organisation (ISAO) for public safety.
