IBM has announced new single frame and rack mount configurations of IBM z16 and IBM LinuxONE 4 to extend their capabilities to a wider range of data centre environments.

The new z16 and LinuxONE Rockhopper 4 options are made to offer a modern and adaptable hybrid cloud platform to assist in digital transformation for various IT environments, stated IBM.

The new options, which are based on IBM’s Telum processor, are developed with a focus on sustainability for highly efficient data centres, assisting clients in adapting to a digitised economy, and ongoing global uncertainty.

The IBM z16 multi frame was launched in April 2022. It is said to support the transformation of industries with real-time artificial intelligence (AI) inferencing at scale and quantum-safe cryptography.

The company’s LinuxONE Emperor 4 server was unveiled in September 2022.

It is equipped with capabilities that can minimise both energy consumption and data centre floor space apart from providing the scale, performance, and security required by customers.

IBM stated that the newly launched single frame and rack mount configurations increase client infrastructure choices.

The new options are expected to help in bringing advantages to data centre environments where space, sustainability, and standardisation are highly important.

Besides, the offerings of IBM z16 and LinuxONE 4 are designed to streamline flexibility and sustainability with capabilities for power monitoring at the partition level and additional environmental metrics for the modern data centre.

IBM zSystems and LinuxONE general manager Ross Mauri said: “IBM remains at the forefront of innovation to help clients weather storms generated by an ever-changing market.

“We’re protecting clients’ investments in existing infrastructure while helping them to innovate with AI and quantum-safe technologies.

“These new options let companies of all sizes seamlessly co-locate IBM z16 and LinuxONE Rockhopper 4 with distributed infrastructure, bringing exciting capabilities to those environments.”
