By actively monitoring data in real-time, FlashSystem Cyber Vault can speed up recovery from ransomware based on validated restore points, thereby allowing enterprises to recover a clean copy of their data quicker than before

IBM has unveiled a new data resilience solution called IBM FlashSystem Cyber Vault to enable companies to improve detection of ransomware and other cyberattacks and quickly recover from them.

Through active monitoring of data in real-time, FlashSystem Cyber Vault can fast track recovery from ransomware based on validated restore points, said IBM. This allows enterprises to recover a clean copy of their data quicker than before.

IBM storage general manager Denis Kennelly said: “As companies are under increasing security threats, they must anticipate and prepare for cyber-attacks in addition to maximising business agility of day-to-day operations.

“IBM FlashSystem Cyber Vault and our most advanced FlashSystem storage are specifically designed to address the performance and security levels that our hybrid cloud clients demand.”

The new data resilience solution is said to complement IBM Safeguarded Copy for the IBM FlashSystem family of all-flash storage arrays, which was launched last July.

FlashSystem Cyber Vault by automatically scanning the copies created regularly by Safeguarded Copy, looks for signs of data corruption caused by either malware or ransomware. The scan helps in quickly detecting a classic ransomware attack apart from identifying which data copies have not been impacted by an attack.

IBM business partner Gulf Business Machines enterprise systems director David Chancellor said: “Our customers are looking for ways to better prepare for probable cyberattacks; IBM Cyber Vault is the ideal choice.

“Not only is it designed to be easy to add to an existing FlashSystem deployment, but its ability to help reduce recovery times is exactly what cyber resilience teams need to keep the business running.”

In addition to the new data resilience solution, IBM introduced new FlashSystem storage models. Based on IBM Spectrum Virtualize, the new storage models are designed to offer a single and consistent operating environment aimed at boosting the cyber resilience and performance of applications inside a hybrid cloud environment.

Earlier this month, IBM launched a new technology hub in Canada under the name Quebec-IBM Discovery Accelerator, which will focus on building new projects, collaborations, and skills-developing initiatives.
