When he’s not picking up Academy Awards for movies such as The Revenant, Leonardo DiCaprio is busy saving the planet – one island at a time. The 42-year-old actor is building an eco-conscious holiday resort on the island of Blackadore Caye near Belize. How much did he pay for it? He snapped up for $1.75 million.

Scheduled to open in 2018, the “world’s leading example of green hospitality” will comprise 72 luxury resort bungalows and estate villas, and all power will be sourced from renewable energy.

2) The Greenwich/Nobu Hotel Manila – Robert De Niro

The star of Taxi Driver and Raging Bull owns the popular Greenwich in his native New York. De Niro also owns the Nobu Hotel Manila in the Philippines, which was branded the world’s worst new luxury hotel back in 2015.

Undeterred, De Niro is now expanding his property empire to London as joint operator of the Wellington, an 83-room boutique hotel in Covent Garden featuring a spa, members’ club and two restaurants. This is set to be one of the most stylish celebrity hotels around!

3) Zablace, Croatia – Brad Pitt

Hopping aboard the green hotel bandwagon, the Fight Club star is planning a “modern ecologically-responsible planned community” in the small resort town of Zablace in Croatia’s Dalmatian region.

The rumoured $1.5 billion development will house 2,500 residents and incorporate a luxury hotel, villas, a golf course, restaurants, shops, and even a school and a clinic. Watch this eco-friendly space.

4) Gwinganna Health Resort – Hugh Jackman

Hugh Jackman fell for this wellness resort on the Gold Coast while preparing for Wolverine. The actor became a part-owner, seduced by the resort’s spa treatments, organic cuisine, outdoor activities and stress therapy.

Cigarettes, drugs, food, caffeinated drinks and alcohol are all off limits at Gwinganna, however physical and spiritual serenity doesn’t come cheap. Seven-night packages start at $3,080 per person. Phew.

5) Pestana CR7 Lisbon  Cristiano Ronaldo

Not content with being one of the world’s greatest footballers and having an airport named after him, one-man global brand Cristiano Ronaldo has opened a hotel in the Portuguese capital Lisbon.

Aimed at 18−34-year-olds, the high-tech Pestana CR7 Lisbon has 82 rooms priced from £209−£1,047 per night, and one suite. Ronaldo owns another CR7 hotel in his hometown of Funchal in Madeira.
