Does Brooklyn Beckham ever walk down the street and not get mobbed by screaming fans? Probably not. As one of the top influencers in Britain, he is something of a phenomenon.

With over 10 million followers on Instagram alone, Brooklyn is an incredibly powerful young voice. He may be only 18, but he already is influencing millions around the world.

The son of David and Victoria Beckham has now released a photography book, and we sat down with him to chat about this exciting new chapter (excuse the pun) of his life.

We chatted to Brooklyn about the struggles of being in the public eye, the importance of his education and his plans for the future.

Having been very much in the public eye since birth, Brooklyn is one of a generation of millennial influencers who have fame in their blood. Circling paparazzi and blacked-out windows are a way of life for the Beckham clan. “A lot of young influencers feel pressure being in the public eye,” explains Brooklyn, “but it is something I have grown up with. I don’t think being in the public eye has affected me too much. I’m just used to it. Obviously I have to be more aware as a teenager that someone may be capturing shots of me unaware.”

Brooklyn definitely feels more himself behind the camera. In fact, not many 18-year-olds can claim to have shot a high-fashion campaign seen by millions. His mum may now be a world-renowned fashion designer, but Brooklyn is very humble about his own successes. When I asked him about shooting for Burberry he gushed: “Working with Burberry was such an amazing experience. When Christopher [Bailey] asked me to shoot the fragrance campaign for them I was incredibly honoured. It was a huge learning experience for me and the team taught me a lot.”

Brooklyn Beckham has big plans for his future

Photography is a real passion for Brooklyn, and he is completely addicted, even carrying his camera around with him. “I’ve been taking photographs for a few years now,” Brooklyn explains. “I take them of everything I do and see. I have been posting a lot of them on social media. Penguin saw what I was doing and offered me this opportunity to create a book of my favourite images which really told the story of literally what I had seen.”

How involved was Brooklyn with the publishing process? “Wow, yeah, I didn’t realise just what a huge and lengthy process creating a book was! You know I found it really hard to choose what went in and what to edit out. I guess that was really the most challenging aspect. I think this book really reflects me, my humour, what I like and how close I am to my family. It’s really a snapshot into my life.”

Now moving away from London, Brooklyn has his sights set on a degree at an American university. Does he intend to pursue photography long term? “Absolutely! I am very keen to study photography and pursue it as a career. I have just done my photography A Level and have been offered a scholarship at an amazing college in New York to study photography further. I’ll be heading out there later this year and will do my degree over there.”
