Intel has launched the 13th Gen Intel Core processor family for desktops that features six new unlocked desktop processors with up to 24 cores and 32 threads.

The company also unveiled a software solution called Intel Unison during the Intel Innovation event in San Jose, California.

Intel said that the new generation processor family is led by i9-13900K, which it claims to be the fastest desktop processor in the world with a speed of 5.8GHz.

Overall, the 13th Gen Intel Core desktop family will have 22 processors and over 125 partner system designs.

The new set of desktop processors, which are said to build on a matured Intel 7 process and x86 performance hybrid architecture, help in better system performance. This includes an improvement of up to 15% in single-threaded performance and up to 41% increase in multi-threaded performance.

Intel client computing group executive vice president and general manager Michelle Johnston Holthaus said: “We are raising the standards of PC performance once again with our latest generation of flagship 13th Gen Intel Core Processors.

“The 13th Gen Intel Core family is the latest example of how Intel is enabling amazing experiences to happen on the PC – at scale and across all PC product segments. Combine this with an industry-leading partner ecosystem and new solutions like Intel Unison, and together we are showing the world what’s truly possible with the PC experience going forward.”

Intel said that alongside the new generation desktop processors, it is rolling out the new Intel 700 Series chipset which is said to come with advanced features to deliver better reliability and performance.

The company will make the 13th generation desktop “K” processors and the Z790 chipset available from 20 October 2022.

Intel’s new software offering, Intel Unison is said to allow users to connect their PCs and devices for a universal experience across operating systems. Its initial release will provide connectivity between the PC and phone, starting with iOS and Android for file transfers, text messages, phone calls, and phone notifications.
