Mercedes-Benz Vans has launched a reservation service to enable potential UK customers to leave a refundable reservation fee on the brand’s debut pick-up model, the X-Class, in response to what it called “phenomenal early demand”.
The pick-up, which, like Renault’s forthcoming Alaskan, is to be based upon the current Nissan Navara, is due to arrive in the UK in early 2018 and customers can jump to the head of the queue by leaving a deposit of £1,000.
Steve Bridge, managing director, Mercedes-Benz Vans UK, said: “Many customers we have spoken to have a strong desire to be amongst the first to own the new X-Class, which is incredible considering that it hasn’t been unveiled yet!”
The X-Class will be available with a V6 diesel engine in conjunction with 4Matic permanent all-wheel drive. Mercedes claimed the truck will have a payload in excess of 1100kg and a towing capacity of 3.5-tonnes in line with the sector leaders, such as the Navara and Ford Ranger.
The X-Class is expected to compete at the premium end of the sector, alongside VW’s 3.0-litre V6 Amarok.
