US-based automotive technology company Visteon has extended its technology collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies to expedite the development of a next-generation digital cockpit.

Through the partnership, the companies intend to develop a high-performance integrated cockpit domain controller technology that will allow global automakers to design and create advanced cockpits.

The technology, which will use Visteon’s SmartCore software and powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon cockpit platforms, is expected to be utilised for software-defined vehicles.

Qualcomm Technologies automotive senior vice president and general manager Nakul Duggal said: “Through our Snapdragon Cockpit Platforms, we are empowering the automotive industry’ transition to a more intelligent, personalised and connected in-vehicle experience.

“We look forward to continuing our efforts with Visteon in bringing advanced capabilities and functionalities to next generation vehicles through SmartCore and our Snapdragon Cockpit Platforms.”

The SmartCore cockpit domain controller software is a solution that combines essential automotive cockpit system features with cloud-enabled applications like navigation, multimedia playback, radio, and voice-activated assistants.

The system features include digital instrument clusters and Android-based infotainment.

Besides, the software solution offers a white-labelled app store with curated apps to provide drivers all over the world with a highly tailored and regionalised experience.

According to Visteon, the SmartCore solution also includes vision processing capabilities to enable surround vision, driver monitoring, and remote surveillance via a smartphone app.

Visteon president and CEO Sachin Lawande said: “The automotive cockpit is emerging as a critical competitive battleground for the industry, and Visteon’s SmartCore software platform offers a complete solution to address the consumers’ demand for a user experience that matches their expectations.

“The combination of Visteon’s SmartCore software and Snapdragon Cockpit Platforms will enable automakers to deliver advanced features & functions in their next generation cockpits quickly with production programs targeted for 2025.”

In December 2022, Visteon announced a partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to deliver the company’s AllGo connected vehicle technology by leveraging the latter’s advanced cloud capabilities.
