Qualcomm Technologies said that it will further bolster its technological collaborations with Leapmotor to develop new generation of intelligent cockpit product based on the former’s Snapdragon cockpit platforms.

In this regard, Qualcomm has entered into a non-binding memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the China-based smart electric vehicle (EV) company.

According to Qualcomm, the EV company is anticipated to be among the first automakers to leverage the platform. The first Leapmotor vehicle planning to adopt the solution is scheduled to debut this year.

The companies expect to explore comprehensive collaboration prospects on cockpit, intelligent driving, and automotive connectivity by utilising Snapdragon Digital Chassis solutions for Leapmotor’s future vehicles.

Qualcomm Technologies senior vice president and automotive general manager Nakul Duggal said: “As the premium automotive-grade solution for intelligent, connected vehicles, the next generation Snapdragon Cockpit Platforms have raised the bar for in-vehicle experiences in the industry and helped automakers and Tier-1 suppliers bring more differentiated features, improved safety and richer use cases to users.

“Building on LEAPMOTOR’s in-depth technical accumulation in the field of independent research & development and the cooperation between our companies, we look forward to sharing premium, immersive driving experiences with users utilising the latest solutions from the Snapdragon Digital Chassis.”

Qualcomm said that its Snapdragon cockpit platform is a premium digital cockpit solution. The automotive-grade solution has been built using 5nm process node.

The platform is expected to serve as the fundamental framework for Leapmotor’s new-generation cockpit platform with process node and powerful artificial intelligence (AI) compute, graphics, and multimedia capabilities.

It will deliver premium experiences in heavy-workload multitasking, intelligent voice processing, contextual awareness, complicated multimedia, and security enhancement, said Qualcomm.

Besides, the EV firm is expected to make use of the Snapdragon Car-to-Cloud Services’ Soft-SKU capabilities to enable customers to enjoy new features and capabilities with over-the-air (OTA) updates throughout the vehicle’s lifecycle.

Leapmotor senior vice president and electronic product line head Hongtao Zhou said: “As one of the first automakers utilising the previous generation of the Snapdragon Cockpit Platform in production vehicles, LEAPMOTOR has realised three-screen interaction by one chip through innovative technology based on its development of cockpit advantages, as well as integrated with four surround-view cameras and ARKAMYS tuning.”
