Purolator, a Canada-based provider of integrated freight, package and logistics solutions, has invested nearly $1bn to electrify its fleet in Canada by 2030.

As part of the investment plan, the Canadian company intends to buy over 3,500 fully electric last-mile delivery vehicles.

Besides, Purolator plans to electrify more than 60 terminals across Canada.

The company is planning to add more than 100 all-electric vehicles (EVs) to its fleet this year with an additional 150 EVs in the coming year.

With the electrification of 60% of the company’s fleet along with other investments in environmental sustainability, the freight, package and logistics solutions provider is expected to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 80,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent this year.

Purolator said that the initiative marks the largest network investment in the company’s history. The company plans to invest over $100m this year alone.

Furthermore, the company aims to eliminate emissions from electricity by using renewable energy sources and diverting more than 70% of its waste from landfill.

The new fleet of Purolator will include Ford E-Transit, Motiv Power Systems EPIC4 and BrightDrop Zevo 600 models.

Purolator president and CEO John Ferguson said: “Purolator was the first Canadian courier to launch fully electric curbside-delivery trucks nationally. Our ambition is to be the greenest courier company in Canada, and with this investment, Purolator will take yet another important step toward a more sustainable future and healthier planet.

“We’ve set ambitious goals for ourselves and are working with our customers and partners every day to reduce our carbon footprint and protect our environment.”
