UK-based autonomous vehicle software company Oxbotica has announced a partnership with Google Cloud to expedite the deployment of its autonomous driving software platform to customers worldwide.

The collaboration will bring together Oxbotica’s autonomous vehicle software and Google Cloud’s expertise in cloud infrastructure. The combination is expected to produce scalable, secure, and dependable autonomous driving solutions for customers in last-mile logistics, public transport, and light industry.

As a part of the partnership, Oxbotica intends to leverage Google Cloud products. These include storage, compute, networking, as well as data and analytics products such as Vertex AI to help build, test, evaluate, and validate its self-driving technology.

Besides, the autonomous vehicle software company will utilise Google Cloud’s cyber-security technologies to assist in ensuring the secure usage of autonomous mobility technology.

In addition to the core development of the self-driving platform, Oxbotica will leverage Google Cloud to create digital twins in MetaDriver.

According to the British firm, MetaDriver is an artificial intelligence (AI)-driven metaverse which connects and manages both virtual and physical fleets while delivering real-time analytics on performance.

The data and machine learning tools needed to allow MetaDriver employ Oxbotica’s proprietary generative AI tools to the bank of virtual scenarios will be provided by Google.

The virtual scenarios comprise unusual edge cases which are difficult to be identified in conventional testing due to economic, environmental, or physical impracticability.

Oxbotica CEO Gavin Jackson said: “We are thrilled to partner with Google Cloud to accelerate bringing autonomous driving solutions to market globally.

“Google Cloud is a global leader in cloud infrastructure and using its cutting-edge technology and AI powered tools will strengthen our proposition for our customers.”

Oxbotica said that its customers could quickly and easily expand from a single prototype vehicle to full fleets with the help of Google Cloud.

According to the companies, the partnership will allow Oxbotica to explore the greater impact of autonomous vehicles on congestion, public transit, and others.

By making use of Google Cloud infrastructure, Oxbotica intends to make application programming interfaces (APIs) available for autonomous driving. The APIs are expected to allow its customers develop new lines of business and to seamlessly operate their existing data and services.

Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian said: “The combination of Oxbotica’s leading technology and our reliable infrastructure and AI and data-enabled cloud platform has the potential to accelerate autonomous mobility in a variety of industrial use cases.

“From last mile logistics to public transportation, we look forward to working together to positively impact the lives of end users.”

In January this year, Oxbotica announced a $140m Series C funding round for its autonomous vehicle software.
