Ford Motor has agreed to acquire Electriphi, a Silicon Valley-based electric vehicle (EV) fleet monitoring software start-up, for an undisclosed price.

The deal, which is anticipated to close this month, is part of Ford Motor’s plan to invest over $30bn by 2025 for electrification of commercial and passenger vehicles.

Electriphi’s charging management and fleet monitoring software and services are said to simplify the transition to EV fleets while saving both time and costs for customers.

Its solutions cover planning for fleet electrification and deployment and operational energy management. The company is said to have customers and partners across the US.

Electriphi is said to have developed and deployed a purpose-built platform for EV fleet and charging management. The platform helps in monitoring important operational metrics such as the real-time status of vehicles, chargers, and also maintenance services.

Ford Motor said that Electriphi’s team and services will be integrated into its new global business Ford Pro, which will focus on developing advanced charging and delivering energy management experiences.

According to the automobile company, commercial vehicle customers are increasingly planning to have fleets of all-electric vehicles. However, charging management continues to be a challenge for mass adoption.

Ford Pro will be planned to leverage Ford Motor’s position in the commercial vehicle market and its vehicle offerings along with Electriphi’s technology to help customers with the EV transition.

Ford Pro CEO Ted Cannis said: “As commercial customers add electric vehicles to their fleets, they want depot charging options to make sure they’re powered up and ready to go to work every day.

“With Electriphi’s existing advanced technology IP in the Ford Pro electric vehicles and services portfolio, we will enhance the experience for commercial customers and be a single-source solution for fleet-depot charging.”

Ford Motor said that the charging platform of Electriphi will complete its purpose-built, charging ecosystem services for commercial customers, which include public charging, employee home charging, and e-telematics solutions.

Last month, the American automobile major signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with SK Innovation for establishing a joint venture for producing approximately 60GWh per year in EV battery cells and array modules in the US.
