French software company Dassault Systèmes has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Verkor to expedite the development of low-carbon lithium-ion battery producing gigafactory in Dunkirk, France.

Under the MoU, the two companies are expected to develop optimal practises for virtual, end-to-end development of products and manufacturing processes. The objective for this is to foster innovation and efficiency, while reducing technical risks over the course of the product lifecycle.

Verkor will leverage Dassault Systèmes’ high performance battery and high-tech smart factory industry solution experiences based on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform for modelling, seamless collaboration, and simulation in a single virtual environment.

The 3DEXPERIENCE platform of Dassault Systèmes will stimulate new methodologies and ways to sustainably innovate for battery development. These will be in areas like product, process and flow simulation, total quality management, and supplier collaboration by using virtual twin technology.

Verkor digital head Christober Raj said: “Our collaboration with Dassault Systèmes will enable us to address the end-to-end product lifecycle process with the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.”

Once completed, Verkor’s first gigafactory will manufacture low-carbon battery cells that will support Europe’s net-zero goals and establish a European battery value chain of solutions and participants.
