Boeing has reached new agreements with Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud, and Microsoft for cloud services with an aim to strengthen its digital foundation.

According to Boeing chief information officer (CIO) and information technology (IT) and data analytics senior vice president Susan Doniz, the multi-cloud partnerships represent a considerable investment in the digital tools that will empower the aerospace firm’s next 100 years.

The partnerships will bolster ability for testing a system or an aircraft several times using digital twin technology before its deployment, said Doniz.

Besides, migrating to the cloud gives global scalability and elasticity to Boeing without the need of prediction, procurement, maintenance, or paying for on-premises servers.

Through the partnership with AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft, the aerospace company will also enable its employees in getting connected digital solutions.

Doniz, in a LinkedIn post, said: “These partners bring industry-leading expertise that will improve our developer experience, allowing greater ability to create applications nimbly and with focused speed.

“Our developers will be able to take advantage of modern tool chains and training resources to expand their skills or create new ones, all while innovating to create the aircraft of the future and the amazing tools and systems that support them.”

With AWS, the aerospace company will get to extend its existing cloud operations as well as streamline its approach to cloud computing.

Boeing will shift applications out of on-premises data centres to AWS and build a technology base to bolster engineering and manufacturing processes.

AWS sales and marketing senior vice president Matt Garman said: “AWS’s proven cloud infrastructure and deep portfolio of services allow Boeing to create new solutions for its global customers and suppliers that will increase innovation and adaptability to enhance the movement of people and goods around the world, including Amazon’s own deliveries for our customers through Amazon Air.”

Google Cloud will support the aerospace major’s cloud transformation by moving several applications across various business groups and aerospace products to its platform.

The partnership with Google Cloud is expected to help Boeing address challenges related to conventional on-premises IT implementations. This will be by leveraging the cloud’s scalability and flexibility and the former’s data analytics and artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML) tools.

Separately, Boeing will utilise the Microsoft Cloud and its AI capabilities for updating its technology infrastructure as well as mission-critical applications with intelligent new solutions.
