Siemens and NVIDIA are expanding their collaboration to enable the industrial metaverse and boost the use of artificial intelligence (AI) driven digital twin technology to take industrial automation to a new level.

As part of the partnership, Siemens Xcelerator, the open digital business platform of Siemens, will be connected to NVIDIA Omniverse 3D-design and collaboration platform. This will pave the way for an industrial metaverse with physics-based digital models from Siemens and NVIDIA’s real-time AI.

The metaverse is expected to help the two firms make quicker decisions and with greater confidence.

According to Siemens, by adding Omniverse to the open Siemens Xcelerator partner ecosystem, the use of digital twins will be accelerated. This will result in delivering productivity and process improvements throughout the production and product lifecycles, said the German group.

Siemens president and CEO Roland Busch said: “Photorealistic, physics-based digital twins embedded in the industrial metaverse offer enormous potential to transform our economies and industries by providing a virtual world where people can interact and collaborate to solve real-world problems.

“Through this partnership, we will make the industrial metaverse a reality for companies of all sizes.”

By bringing together complementary technologies and ecosystems, Siemens’ partnership with NVIDIA is said to help realise the industrial metaverse.

The Siemens Xcelerator platform is designed to connect electrical, mechanical, and software domains across the product and production processes and allows the convergence of information technology (IT) and operational technology (OT).

NVIDIA Omniverse, which is an AI-enabled, physically simulated, and industrial-scale virtual-world engine, allows the creation of full-fidelity live digital twins.

The platform uses the NVIDIA AI intelligence engine in the cloud and autonomous systems at the edge.

Siemens said that the NVIDIA Omniverse and AI are perfect computation engines for representing the digital twin from Siemens Xcelerator.

NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang said: “Siemens and NVIDIA share a common vision that the industrial metaverse will drive digital transformation. This is just the first step in our joint effort to make this vision real for our customers and all parts of the global manufacturing industry.

“The connection to Siemens Xcelerator will open NVIDIA’s Omniverse and AI ecosystem to a whole new world of industrial automation that is built using Siemens’ mechanical, electrical, software, IoT and edge solutions.”
