SambaNova Systems, a US-based artificial intelligence (AI) company, has been selected by Hungary-based banking company OTP Group to build an AI supercomputer.

In cooperation with the Hungarian Ministry for Innovation and Technology (ITM), the parties will deliver the system as a national AI resource to cater to the public and private sectors and higher education.

SambaNova and OTP Group will jointly deploy a multi-rack AI system under a multi-year collaboration agreement.

The partners will deploy SambaNova’s dataflow-as-a-service generative pre-trained transformer (GPT) solution and build a Hungarian language model. This will be followed by languages of other central and eastern Europe (CEE) countries where OTP Group operates.

SambaNova co-founder and CEO Rodrigo Liang said: “Large language models are quickly becoming the primary interface to the enterprise and AI will drive the transformation of industries. This deployment at OTP Group will showcase what’s possible with advanced AI across document-heavy industries, such as banking and financial services.”

Through the deployment of the multi-rack AI system, the Hungarian bank expects to transform itself, covering all the corners of the enterprise, right from the front office to the back office.

The partnership is said to enable OTP Group’s 17 million customers to experience faster, more customised AI-based financial services with a supercomputer capable of quickly processing huge amounts of text-based information and data.

According to the parties, by making workflows considerably faster and taking over tasks that are repetitive, more space can be created for developing services as well as human creativity.

After its deployment, the AI supercomputer is expected to help the European banking group to move ahead with AI and make more inroads in the global financial market.

OTP Group deputy CEO and digital division head Péter Csányi said: “This is a unique collaboration between OTP Group, ITM, and SambaNova Systems to provide an incredible resource to the country and the Central and Eastern European region.

“We are pleased to announce that this groundbreaking supercomputer will represent a unique AI capability to build GPT-3 level language models for languages across CEE.”
