Oracle has opened cloud regions in Italy and Sweden to cater to private and public sector organisations by supporting their growing cloud computing demands.

Following the opening of the two regions, Oracle’s next-generation cloud is currently available in 36 regions around the world.

In Italy, the company’s first cloud region is dubbed as Oracle Cloud Milan Region, which will give access to Oracle Cloud services to customers and partners for driving their business growth.

According to the company, the Milan region is located strategically in the heart of the business and industrial hub of Italy. The new infrastructure region will support key industries such as banking, food, fashion, and tourism as well as start-up communities in the country.

Oracle Italy vice president and country general manager Alessandro Ippolito said: “It is important that we offer organizations access to cloud infrastructure that is located in Italy to manage their most critical data and applications. We currently see significant growth in our cloud business that reflects our customers’ desire to rapidly digitize their operations so they can better serve their customers.

“The Milan region also supports the Italian government’s ‘Piano Nazionale di Ripresa e Resilienza’ (National Plan of Recovery and Resilience) initiative, which aims to promote the economic recovery of the country through digital modernisation.”

The Milan region is said to have been built on the next-generation architecture of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). It will offer a foundation for cloud services, with a physical and virtual network design that is claimed to help streamline performance and security.

Oracle Cloud’s services in Milan include Oracle Autonomous Database, Oracle Cloud VMware, and Oracle Container Engine for Kubernetes.

The tech major’s Swedish cloud region is located in Stockholm, which is its first in the Nordics. Dubbed as Oracle Cloud Stockholm Region, the hub is expected to bolster Oracle’s network in the European Union.

Apart from Italy and Sweden, the company has cloud regions in Frankfurt in Germany, Amsterdam in the Netherlands, and Marseille in France.

The company has plans to open a second region in France and its first region in Spain. It also has cloud regions in the UK and Switzerland.

Recently, Oracle revealed its intentions to open 14 new cloud regions around the world in 2022. The company plans to have at least 44 regions by the end of next year.
