Oracle said that BT Group has selected its Oracle Communications Cloud Native Converged Policy Management to streamline its network resources with an objective to fast track roll-out of new 5G offerings to the UK market.

The solution is expected to help the British mobile and broadband provider in testing and implementing 5G services in a seamless manner in minutes, rather than months.

The 5g services that will use the converged policy solution are live streaming, augmented reality (AR), and zero-rated 5G content across the company’s EE mobile network.

BT chief technology officer Howard Watson said: “BT Group, and EE in particular, have a long-standing, successful track record with Oracle.

“As we move to this next evolution in networking, Oracle is helping us reduce complexity with solutions that ease the migration to 5G and provide the flexibility needed both to introduce innovative new services, and also ensure we’re offering our customers the right levels of service according to their needs.

“Working with Oracle further supports our ambitions towards delivering a mobile network that continues to exceed customer expectations.”

Oracle said that its cloud-native solution will make it easier for network engineers for designing, testing, and deploying new services across 4G and 5G networks.

BT will also get the flexibility needed from the policy management solution to optimise its network and subscriber resources for rolling out 5G-enabled Internet of Things (IoT) service offerings to consumer and enterprise customers.

Furthermore, BT by tapping Oracle’s built-in analytics function and support for edge-routing, can make intelligent policy decisions. The decisions can be made using subscriber, class of service, network resource, and quality of services (QoS) data in real-time for providing customers with the best, most reliable experience, said the US firm.

Oracle communications, networks senior vice president and general manager Andrew Morawski said: “Oracle Communications technology is helping forward-thinking operators such as BT, future-proof their 5G vision.

“With a unified, future-ready policy management platform, BT can optimise network resources appropriately and bring new, innovative services and experiences to customers more quickly.”

Earlier this week, Oracle said that video experience cloud Kaltura had selected Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) for supporting its growth and expediting its global expansion.
