Nvidia has launched new features for Nvidia Omniverse, an extensible platform to help developers implement 3D design collaboration and scalable multi-GPU, real-time, true-to-reality simulation.

The features released by the firm are said to make it easier for developers in asset sharing, sorting of asset libraries, collaborating and deploying artificial intelligence (AI) to animate the facial expressions of characters in a new game development pipeline.

By using the real-time design collaboration and simulation platform, video game developers can use AI and Nvidia RTX enabled tools or easily create custom ones for streamlining, expediting, and improving their development workflows, said the company.

According to Nvidia, the new features for game developers are updates to Omniverse Audio2Face, Omniverse DeepSearch, and Omniverse Nucleus Cloud along with the rollout of Unreal Engine 5 Omniverse Connector.

Omniverse Audio2Face, which is powered by AI, allows character artists to create facial animation by using just an audio file. Omniverse Nucleus Cloud facilitates one-click simple sharing of Omniverse scenes, thereby eliminating the need of deploying Nucleus locally or in a private cloud.

Omniverse DeepSearch lets game developers use natural language inputs and imagery for instantly searching across their entire catalogue of untagged 3D assets, characters, and objects.

Omniverse Connectors, on the other hand, are plugins built to allow “live sync” collaborative workflows between third-party design tools and the Omniverse platform.

Nvidia omniverse vice president Frank DeLise said: “Omniverse provides a powerful development pipeline that addresses the challenges of doing business in today’s world.

“Its ability to unify artists, art, tools and applications under a single platform can inspire collaboration among even the most dispersed game development organisation.”

Nvidia Omniverse has been designed to run on any Nvidia RTX device, from a laptop to a server. The platform is developed on Pixar’s Universal Scene Description (USD), which is an extensible, open-source 3D scene description and file format for creating content and interchange.

Nvidia said that it has expanded upon Universal Scene Description by creating new tools, integrating technologies, as well as giving samples and tutorials.

Apart from revealing about the Nvidia Omniverse, Nvidia’s founder and CEO Jensen Huang introduced the new Hopper GPU architecture, H100 GPU, a new AI and accelerated computing software, and new data-centre-scale systems at the company’s GTC conference.
