NTT has announced a new partnership with French energy and automation digital solutions provider Schneider Electric to deliver an on-premises private network solution and digitisation enabling platform called Private 5G (P5G).

According to NTT, the new offering can drastically advance digital solutions in the manufacturing environment.

NTT said that the P5G platform will be trialled in early 2022 at Schneider Electric’s Lexington smart factory in the US.

Schneider Electric’s factory is expected to utilise the Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity, predictive analytics, and Edge analytics to drive energy efficiency and further goals in sustainability.

The P5G platform will be powering important use-cases that solve challenges centred on the availability of equipment, performance of machines, and quality of products.

NTT added that by means of co-innovation, the on-premises private network solution will offer a model for operational integrity management. The model is said to be scalable across a wide footprint of global factory environments for powering Industry 4.0, thereby enabling Network Edge platforms.

NTT new ventures and innovation EVP Shahid Ahmed said: “With this strategic partnership, we are confident that NTT’s P5G solution will support Schneider Electric business and service level objectives with a powerful machine vision solution that solves for operational continuity and performance throughout the Lexington and Lincoln plant facilities.

“Our P5G platform brings full-stack managed services, process workflow and IoT application integration capabilities that both addresses strategic objectives towards factory high performance and net zero carbon emission goals.”

NTT said that to further its partnership with Schneider Electric, it will deploy its private 5G services and data centres with the latter’s technologies. These include a data centre that is prefabricated for integrating and testing its edge offerings using EcoStruxure solutions.

Schneider Electric international operations executive vice president Luc Rémont said: “In partnering with NTT, Schneider Electric further extends its manufacturing expertise along with data centre and network solutions to drive innovations for self-contained Edge Private 5G use-cases.

“Above and beyond superior security and control offered through this partnership, wireless networks offer superior benefits over a wired network from a sustainability perspective – smaller copper cabling footprint means minimizing energy usage and aligning to our net-zero carbon goals.”
