IT infrastructure and services company NTT and the American cloud computing and virtualization technology company VMware in partnership with Intel have launched the managed edge compute platform, Edge-as-a-Service.
Edge-as-a-Service is said to be a globally integrated solution that speeds up business process automation.
It provides enterprise applications with near-zero latency at the network edge, optimising costs and enhancing end-user experiences in a secure setting.
NTT’s Edge-as-a-Service solution uses VMware’s edge compute stack. Further, VMware is said to incorporate NTT’s private 5G technologies as part of the edge solution.
VMware service provider and edge business unit senior vice president and general manager Sanjay Uppal said: “Bringing VMware’s Edge Compute Stack to NTT’s Edge-as-a-Service will enable our mutual customers to build, run, manage, connect and better protect edge-native applications at the Near and Far Edge while leveraging consistent infrastructure and operations with the power of edge computing.”

A fully integrated Edge+Private 5G managed service is created by combining NTT’s multi-cloud and edge platforms with VMware’s secure application development, resource management automation, and real-time processing capabilities.
Edge-as-a-Service, which is a component of NTT’s Managed Service portfolio, along with network-as-a-service and multi-cloud-as-a-service, is created to aid in securing, streamlining, and optimising organisations’ digital transformation processes.
According to NTT, the solution, which uses multi-cloud and multi-tenant connectivity along with NTT’s network segmentation capabilities, offers significant advantages for a variety of industries, including manufacturing, retail, logistics, and entertainment.
