Social technology company Meta has announced two new integrations for its online collaborative software tool Workplace with Microsoft Teams to make it easier for enterprises to reach and engage employees.

One of the integrations will enable employees to access content from Workplace within Teams without having to change back and forth between the two apps. According to Workplace from Meta’s official company blog, employees will now find it easier to stay up to date with important information.

Besides, the new integration is expected to create more opportunities for feedback and engagement across a company.

Another integration will allow users to stream from Teams meetings into Workplace groups. This will enable employees to watch live meetings and events on whichever app they might be using, or watch them later by accessing the recording of the stream on Workplace.

The feature of streaming meetings and broadcasts from Teams into Workplace will be made available to companies, starting from next year.

Microsoft Teams product and engineering CVP Jeff Teper said: “One thing I learned from the pandemic is that companies don’t just rely on one tool to get their work done, so it is our responsibility as leaders in the space to make sure the tools they use integrate and interoperate with each other.

“We have a shared vision of offering our customers choice and flexibility, so it made sense for us to come together to help our mutual customers unlock collaboration and break down silos within their organisations.”

The new integrations are already being trialled by Vodafone, Lockton, and Flight Centre Travel Group among others, said the blog.

Flight Centre Travel Group digital workplace head Nick Williams said: “The new Teams and Workplace integration will mark another important step in our goal of fostering community and collaboration across all of our employees.

“By creating a bridge between our company’s community hub (Workplace) and teamwork hub (Teams), employees will be able to access the most important information, whether they’re in an office or in the field, and feel connected at all times.”

The new integrations build on last year’s commitment made by Workplace and Microsoft to bring together tools to help their mutual customers in connecting, collaborating, and communicating in a secured manner.

The parties’ joint customers can already integrate the Meta app with SharePoint, OneDrive, as well as the Office 365 suite.

Meta is the new brand name for Facebook in order to reflect the latter’s transformation from a social media platform to a social technology company.
