Juniper Networks, a US-based provider of artificial intelligence (AI) driven networks, has been selected by XL Axiata, an Indonesian mobile telecommunications company, to help expedite the rollout of 5G services in Indonesia.

In this regard, XL Axiata will enhance its existing network infrastructure by implementing the Segment Routing over IPv6 (SRv6) and MX Series universal routing platforms of the US firm.

The parties had partnered in the past as well, which was for designing the Indonesian firm’s mobile backhaul infrastructure that underpins its nationwide 4G LTE network.

Juniper Networks will now deploy its SRv6-based transport network for XL Axiata for facilitating the introduction of 5G services.

Juniper Networks ASEAN and Taiwan senior director Perry Sui said: “This expansion of our long-term relationship is also a testament to our ability to build scalable and operationally intelligent networks.

“With our experience-first solutions and the capabilities provided by SRv6, we are confident that XL Axiata will deliver superior 5G experiences and continue to provide world-class connectivity in Indonesia for many years to come.”

The foundation of the SRv6-based transport network will be provided by the MX240, MX960, MX480, and MX2020 Series universal routing platforms from Juniper Networks’ 400G portfolio.

The US firm’s Juniper Professional Services unit is also expected to have a key role in designing and implementing SRv6 in the XL Axiata core network. The unit will be responsible for ensuring interoperability with the existing IP/MPLS network of the Indonesian telecom firm.

By implementing Juniper Networks’ SRv6, XL Axiata will experience increased control, application awareness, agility, and streamlined traffic management of its network.

XL Axiata network planning and design group head Fadly Hamka said: “By leveraging Juniper’s industry-leading routing solutions and SRv6 capabilities, we will be able to experience improved network reliability and scalability, as well as simplified network operations.

“Alongside Juniper, we look forward to supporting Indonesia’s digital economy and providing our customers with high-speed, on-demand, low-latency connectivity for 5G services.”
