Opn, a Japanese payments solutions company, has acquired MerchantE, an American digital commerce platform, for an undisclosed sum, to mark its entry into the US market.
MerchantE, which is a full-stack payments platform, offers payment processing and commerce solutions to businesses of all sizes across the US.
Through the acquisition, Opn expects to expedite its growth and innovation to become a major global payment solutions firm.
MerchantE’s backend technology is said to complement Opn’s online payment and digital transformation solutions.
MerchantE CEO Sergi Herrero said: “We are equally excited to embark on this new journey with Opn and see tremendous opportunity to realize the meaningful benefits of this transaction as we increase our presence in the embedded payments market.
“MerchantE will continue to pursue its current product roadmap, and this combination with Opn will help bring our valuable technology to many new customers, positioning us for success in a fast-growing market.”
Put together, in 2022, Opn and MerchantE are claimed to have processed more than $19bn in payments for over 20,000 businesses.

Opn and MerchantE, as a combined entity, will offer digital finance solutions to various companies in the world. These range from integrated cloud business software platform Oracle NetSuite and e-commerce platform Magento to TrueMoney and Toyota Financial Services.
Post-acquisition, MerchantE will continue to be headquartered in Alpharetta, Georgia and continue to function under its own brand.
