US-based chipmaker Intel has revealed plans to brand its upcoming consumer high-performance graphics products as Intel Arc.

The new Arc brand will cover hardware, software and services, and will span multiple hardware generations.

Intel said that the new Arc graphics solutions will be designed to provide high-performance gaming, immersive visuals, and enhanced game streaming and creation experiences.

Based on the X HPG microarchitecture, the first of Intel Arc products, code-named Alchemist, which is previously known as DG2, is expected to be made available in the first quarter of 2022.

According to the company, Intel X is a scalable graphics and compute architecture that is designed to provide enhanced performance and functionality covering integrated to discrete and data centres to supercomputers.

Intel client graphics products and solutions vice president and general manager Roger Chandler said: “Today marks a key moment in the graphics journey we started just a few years ago. The launch of the Intel Arc brand and the reveal of future hardware generations signifies Intel’s deep and continued commitment to gamers and creators everywhere.

“We have teams doing incredible work to ensure we deliver first-class and frictionless experiences when these products are available early next year.”

Featuring hardware-based ray tracing and artificial intelligence-driven super sampling, the first generation Alchemist is expected to provide full support for DirectX 12 Ultimate.

Intel Arc graphics products will be based on the Xe HPG microarchitecture, which is a convergence of the company’s Xe LP, HP and HPC microarchitectures.

The graphic products will be designed to will deliver scalability and compute efficiency with advanced graphics features.

The company has also disclosed the code names of future generations under the Arc brand as Battlemage, Celestial and Druid.

The company stated: “Intel’s long-term vision is to bring frictionless gaming and content creation experiences to gamers and creators worldwide, giving them innovation and choice in hardware coupled with open and accessible software tools.”
