IBM and CAST said that enterprises can now transform and expedite IBM Cloud adoption by leveraging the new capabilities of CAST Highlight, a software intelligence product for rapid application analysis.

The new capabilities of the product include automated recommendations for IBM Cloud offerings.

According to IBM, one of the major challenges faced by enterprise IT departments is application modernisation. This is particularly the case as organisations aim to adopt hybrid cloud strategies, while needing their applications to run seamlessly across several different platforms.

When an organisation migrates critical workloads to the cloud, it is necessary to pinpoint areas rapidly where application code has to be changed. Besides, it is important to accurately estimate the effort needed and identify services that are appropriate for the applications to leverage, said IBM.

CAST Highlight with its new capabilities is said to offer recommendations automatically about the IBM Cloud-native services that best fit each application based on its technical characteristics.

CAST business development EVP Marc Zablit said: “CAST Highlight can analyse the source code of hundreds of applications in a week and automatically detect patterns that may impact the migration, whether one intends to use containers or embark on refactoring. It also specifies exactly where and how delays can be addressed.

“By optimising the migration process, organisations can more quickly experience the unique benefits of IBM Cloud, including its leading security capabilities.”

IBM said that the multi-disciplinary experts of its global business services unit use CAST Highlight as part of the IBM Garage Methodology, which is designed for enabling clients to accelerate and de-risk application modernisation and co-create solutions.

IBM cloud VP and CTO Hillery Hunter said: “CAST technology has been an integral part of the IBM Garage for over a year, helping enterprises on their hybrid cloud journeys.

“With the new CAST Highlight capabilities, organisations can accelerate their migrations to cloud and experience the benefits of IBM Cloud earlier, including its industry-leading confidential computing capabilities.”

CAST, which offers insight into the structural condition of software assets, is part of IBM’s partner ecosystem.

Last month, IBM unveiled IBM z/OS V2.5, a new operating system (OS) for its IBM Z enterprise platform systems. The new OS, which comes with artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities, has been designed for accelerating client adoption of hybrid cloud and AI.
