IBM has unveiled a new artificial intelligence (AI) and data platform, dubbed IBM Watsonx, to allow businesses to scale and expedite the impact of the most advanced AI with trusted data.

The new platform is expected to deliver an AI development studio with access to IBM-curated and trained foundation models and open-source models.

It will also offer access to a data store to allow the collection and cleansing of training and tuning data.

Besides, the Watsonx platform is anticipated to provide businesses with a toolkit for the governance of AI that will offer an easy end-to-end AI workflow to make AI easier to adapt and scale.

The new platform contains three product sets, namely IBM watsonx.ai, IBM watsonx.data and IBM watsonx.governance.

Watsonx.ai is a next generation enterprise studio for AI builders to train, test, tune, and deploy both conventional machine learning and new generative AI capabilities.

It is supported by foundation models through an open and intuitive user interface.

IBM watsonx.data is a data store built on open lakehouse architecture which is streamlined for governed data and AI workloads. This product is backed by querying, governance, and open data formats to access and share data.

Both products are anticipated to be generally available in July 2023.

IBM watsonx.governance, which is expected later this year, is an AI governance toolkit to allow trusted AI workflows.

IBM chairman and CEO Arvind Krishna said: “With the development of foundation models, AI for business is more powerful than ever. Foundation models make deploying AI significantly more scalable, affordable, and efficient.

“We built IBM watsonx for the needs of enterprises, so that clients can be more than just users, they can become AI advantaged. With IBM watsonx, clients can quickly train and deploy custom AI capabilities across their entire business, all while retaining full control of their data.”

IBM also plans to announce further advancements during its annual Think conference like a GPU-as-a-service infrastructure offering developed to assist AI-intensive workloads.

The announcement will also include a new practice for Watsonx and generative AI from IBM Consulting to help client deployment of AI and an AI-backed dashboard to measure, track, manage, and assist report on cloud carbon emissions.
