Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) has agreed to acquire Zerto, a US and Israel-based cloud data management and protection platform, for $374m in an all-cash deal.

Zerto’s software-only platform is said to use continuous data protection to bring together disaster recovery, backup, and data mobility. Built for enterprise-scale, the platform removes the risks and complexity associated with modernisation and cloud adoption.

The company’s platform is claimed to be used by 350 managed service providers and 9,000 customers for offering disaster recovery, protection from ransomware, and mobility of data and applications across hybrid, multi-cloud environments.

Established in 2009, the data management and protection provider has nearly 500 employees.

Its solutions are claimed to help customers recover within minutes from cyberattacks, ransomware and other unplanned downtime. The impacted data is brought back by Zerto’s platform to the original state of what it was just seconds prior to the attack or disruption.

HPE said that the acquisition of Zerto expands HPE GreenLake cloud services business. It also expedites HPE Storage’s transition to a cloud-native, software-defined data services business.

HPE president and CEO Antonio Neri said: “With the explosive growth of data at the edge and across hybrid environments, organisations today face significant complexity in managing and protecting their data.

“Zerto’s market-leading cloud data management and protection software expands HPE GreenLake cloud data services, allowing customers to protect their data and rapidly act on insights, from edge to cloud.”

Zerto’s management team will join HPE post-acquisition. The data management and protection provider will be organised under HPE Storage.

Zerto CEO Ziv Kedem said: “The HPE GreenLake edge-to-cloud strategy and strong leadership is a perfect match for Zerto.

“Coupling Zerto’s industry-leading cloud data management and protection software platform with HPE’s cloud data services and go-to-market reach will offer an unparalleled experience for our collective customers and partners.”

The deal, which is subject to receipt of regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions, is anticipated to close in Q4 of HPE’s fiscal year 2021.
