Google has wrapped up the previously announced $5.4bn acquisition of Mandiant, a US-based provider of cyber defense, threat intelligence, and incident response services.

As per the terms of the deal announced in March 2022, shareholders of the NASDAQ-listed Mandiant were offered an amount of $23 per share in cash.

The company’s services are provided by its team of security and intelligence individuals working across 22 countries. It caters to enterprises and organisations by helping them prepare for and respond to cybersecurity incidents.

Mandiant will now operate under Google Cloud.

The cybersecurity firm, which was established in 2004, developed the Mandiant Advantage SaaS platform for providing current intelligence, automating alert investigation, and prioritise and validating security control products from multiple vendors.

Mandiant CEO Kevin Mandia said: “Mandiant is driven by a mission to make every organisation secure from cyber threats and confident in their readiness.

“Combining our 18 years of threat intelligence and incident response experience with Google Cloud’s security expertise presents an incredible opportunity to deliver with the speed and scale that the security industry needs.”

According to Google, Google Cloud and Mandiant are expected to provide a suite of end-to-end security operations with even more capabilities for supporting customers across their cloud as well as on-premise environments.

At the time of announcing the deal, Google said that the real-time and in-depth threat intelligence of Mandiant in combination with the cloud-native security offerings of Google Cloud will help enterprises in staying protected throughout their security lifecycle.

Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian said: “The completion of this acquisition will enable us to deliver a comprehensive and best-in-class cybersecurity solution.

“We believe this acquisition creates incredible value for our customers and the security industry at large. Together, Google Cloud and Mandiant will help reinvent how organisations protect themselves, as well as detect and respond to threats.”
