Etisalat Misr, an Egyptian mobile operator company, has selected Swedish telecommunications firm Ericsson for modernising its business support systems (BSS) in Egypt.

According to Ericsson, the transformation will involve upgrading and modernising the BSS platform for supporting traffic growth of data and Voice-over-LTE (VoLTE), readiness for 5G, and Internet of Things (IoT).

The Swedish firm said that it will equip Etisalat Misr with a variety of upgraded capabilities for its business operations in the product, customer, and service management domains as well as for customers, partners, enterprises, events, and network technologies.

Ericsson said that its BSS will help Etisalat Misr to further drive innovation and boost customer satisfaction with more flexibility.

The agreement signed by the parties will also enable capacity expansion for VoLTE using Ericsson Cloud VoLTE technology, which will facilitate an increased customer experience for Etisalat Misr’s users.

Etisalat Misr is also expected to benefit from a low-risk and effective route to address business opportunities in conventional telecom services, cloud transformation, digital services, and IoT.

Etisalat Misr CEO Hazem Metwally said: “Enhancing our business operations in Egypt is essential to improving customers’ services and satisfaction.

“We are looking forward to the outcomes of this partnership that will be brought, especially with evolving our BSS, Digital transformation, latest network technology readiness, Fintech and IoT.”

Ericsson claimed that the many features provided by the transformation will be in line with Etisalat Misr’s digital transformation programme with Egypt Vision. As a result, this will boost consumer and business opportunities currently via 4G and in the future through 5G.

Ericsson Middle East and Africa vice president Ekow Nelson said: “The acceleration of Digitalization everywhere in the world is transforming lives and opening doors to a whole host of opportunities.

“Today’s partnership with Etisalat Misr underscores our joint role in this transformation. The BSS transformation agreement is testament to the common vision we share with Etisalat Misr and we are excited to work jointly towards its realisation.”

Earlier this month, Ericsson signed an agreement with Ooredoo, a Qatari telecommunications firm, to provide offshore enterprise connectivity in Qatar.
