IBM announced that UAE-based telecommunications services provider Etisalat by e& has selected the company’s sustainability software to implement sustainability across the latter’s businesses.
With IBM’s sustainability software, the telecommunications company expects to bolster its environmental, social and governance (ESG) strategy.
By leveraging technologies like IBM TRIRIGA Application Suite for real estate and facilities operations and IBM Maximo Application Suite for intelligent asset management, Etisalat by e& intends to develop a sustainability foundation and set a roadmap to fulfil ESG goals.
Besides, the UAE-based company is expected to enhance the efficiency of data centre and cloud environments as well as scale the workloads by using IBM Turbonomic and IBM Cloud Pak for Watson AIOps.
IBM EMEA chair and general manager Ana Paula de Jesus Assis said: “Innovation and our ability to develop solutions for our clients remain critically important for us.
“IBM’s software can play an important role in supporting etisalat by e&’s efforts to transform their operational and environmental data into insights that their stakeholders can understand. This is a foundational step to help make sustainability initiatives effective and scalable.”
The telecommunications provider pledged to achieve net zero emissions from its operations by 2030 and actively contribute to global climate action at COP27 in 2022.
Etisalat by e& is working on key strategies to minimise its carbon footprint by improving energy efficiency, renewable energy sourcing and others.
The company also joined the UAE Independent Climate Change Accelerators (UICCA) in November 2022.
Etisalat by e& chief technology officer Khalid Murshed said: “We look forward to using IBM’s technologies in the area of data, AI and automation to explore opportunities to support our ESG and sustainability goals, which are at the heart of our business model.
“This can help reinforce our commitment to delivering innovative solutions that have a meaningful impact on people’s lives and establish us as a valued provider.”
In January this year, Abu Dhabi-based Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) partnered with IBM to establish an artificial intelligence (AI) centre of excellence.
