Dragos and Oil and Natural Gas Information Sharing and Analysis Center (ONG-ISAC) have partnered to launch a joint initiative to boost cybersecurity in the oil and gas industry.

The partnership comes in the wake of a continued rise in cyber threats in frequency and sophistication, targeting industrial controls systems (ICS)/operational technology (OT) networks.

The joint initiative will be aimed at strengthening security and community-wide visibility for industrial cybersecurity in the oil and natural gas sector in North America.

As part of the partnership, ONG-ISAC will use Dragos’s Neighborhood Keeper, which is a free, opt-in, anonymised information-sharing network that was developed with support from an award from the US Department of Energy.

With Neighborhood Keeper, ONG-ISAC is expected to enable its analysts to gain enhanced visibility into ICS cyber threats facing the oil and natural gas sector.

As the Dragos Platform detects threat analytics and Indicators of Compromise (IOC) and shares with Neighborhood Keeper, ONG-ISAC analysts will be able to have access to anonymous and aggregated information about those analytics.

ONG-ISAC is expected to share insights and trends obtained from the information with all its members.

The initiative will also enable Dragos customers in the oil and natural gas sector to benefit from access to a large pool of ONG-ISAC cybersecurity expert analysis.

Dragos co-founder and CEO Robert Lee said: “Achieving strong industrial cybersecurity in the oil and natural gas industry is attainable through a collaborative, community effort.

“The infrastructure of the oil and natural gas industry is becoming more interconnected every day and state and criminal actors are evolving their capabilities to take advantage of those connections.

“This new capability for the ONG-ISAC helps the oil and natural gas community operate collectively to make sure an attack on one member can be seen and shared by all.

“Working together, the community is made stronger than what any single company or organisation can achieve on their own.”

In August this year, Dragos partnered with the Downstream Natural Gas Information Sharing and Analysis Center (DNG-ISAC) to strengthen the security of ICS/OT in the North American natural gas sector.
