Tokyo-based auto and truck parts manufacturer Bridgestone has selected Amazon Web Services (AWS) as its strategic cloud provider in support of the company’s sustainable mobility solutions.

Bridgestone expects to expedite the development of digital platforms by leveraging AWS Internet of Things (IoT), machine learning, and analytics or business intelligence services.

AWS will help the company to introduce new solutions for its clients, enhance data analysis, and simplify IT operations.

Bridgestone Americas president and CEO and Bridgestone Corporation joint global chief operating officer Paolo Ferrari said: “Using AWS platforms, we will transform the way we provide services and solutions to our customers to enhance the digital customer experience Bridgestone offers while also modernising our business operations and improving data analytics capabilities.”

Under the partnership, Bridgestone intends to collaborate with AWS’s ProServe and AWS Marketplace teams to improve the company’s current fleet solutions and achieve concepts like a Bridgestone marketplace to life.

The digitally enabled solutions offer fleet managers a better understanding of the condition of their fleets, proactive maintenance requirements, access to a wide network of service providers, and scheduling and digital payment options.

These features are expected to unlock customer and social value.

To increase the understanding of AWS technologies, which facilitates accelerated cloud adoption and the creation of new external and internal capabilities, Bridgestone intends to give its entire IT staff in the Americas region access to AWS’ extensive cloud training materials and curriculum.

Bridgestone expects to move its North American data centres to AWS and carry on creating new system application and products (SAP) environments on AWS.

Amazon Web Services vice president of global services Uwem Ukpong said: “AWS provides the most comprehensive suite of cloud offerings to enable automotive leaders to build applications that touch every point in the customer journey.

“With Bridgestone’s extensive domain expertise and AWS’s cloud leadership, we’re expanding our impact across the automotive landscape and unlocking new industry solutions to make the mobility of the future a reality today.”

The transition to the cloud is said to help Bridgestone fulfil its efficiency, extension, and economic values as part of the Bridgestone E8 Commitment by reducing energy consumption and waste associated with the hardware assets.
