Arm, in partnership with Indian IT company Tech Mahindra, has announced that it will launch a new lab to facilitate a live test environment for 5G solutions.

The announcement of the new lab comes in the wake of an increase in the deployment of commercial 5G networks around the world.

The Arm 5G Solutions Lab will focus on speeding up innovation for network infrastructure by serving as a place to demonstrate end-to-end 5G solutions.

The lab is aimed at bringing together Arm’s hardware and software ecosystem partners to validate 5G solutions in a live test environment.

Through the lab, Arm intends to provide its partners and operators a secure access to test solutions and gain confidence in new technologies across several critical use-cases.

The use-cases include small cells, macro cells, private 5G networks, cloud Radio Access Network (RAN), RAN Intelligence Controller (RIC), and core network.

Arm infrastructure business SVP and GM Chris Bergey said: “The speeds and feeds of a strong network solution is undoubtedly important, but to further enable telcos and vendors to deploy an infrastructure that can support the promise and potential of a 5G world, it requires participation across the industry.”

The Arm 5G Solutions Lab allows software and hardware developers, operators, and cloud service providers to come together to support 5G innovations by defining key performance indicators (KPIs), blueprints and deployment guides.

Arm expects the lab to serve as a catalyst for the company’s ecosystem to develop and deploy a 5G network infrastructure.

Expected to be made available to developers by early 2022, the Arm 5G Solutions Lab is supported by industry leaders from cloud service providers like Google Cloud, silicon and hardware providers like EdgeQ, GIGABYTE, Marvell, NVIDIA, NXP, and Qualcomm Technologies.

Google Cloud’s telecom and Google distributed cloud engineering head and distinguished engineer Ankur Jain said: “5G networks can bring unprecedented value to enterprises and consumers, and this will require new partnerships across the broad ecosystem of hardware suppliers, software providers, and telecom operators.

“Google Cloud is excited to be partnering with Arm on its 5G Solutions Lab to build innovative approaches that will accelerate 5G technology development and deployment.”
